Cooper Power Systems and AT&T Recognized for Best Smart Meter/Smart Grid Product Service June 23, 2010 Cooper Power Systems, a division of Cooper Industries plc (NYSE: CBE) and AT&T recently announced that Cooper Power Systems Smart Sensors™ have been recognized with the Best Smart Meter/Smart Grid Product Award at UtilitiesTelecom Council (UTC) 2010 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The award was given to Cooper Power Systems for Smart Sensors, including the company’s OutageAdvisor™ and VARAdvisor™, both of which use the AT&T wireless network to transmit information in real-time over the AT&T wireless network. “Utilities are looking for best in breed Smart Grid Solutions,” said Cooper Power Systems group president, Mike Stoessl. “This award gives that recognition to one of Cooper Power Systems’ smart grid solutions, which can improve reliability while also reducing carbon emissions; both are key drivers for creating a smarter grid.” Through a business relationship with Cooper Power Systems announced last year, AT&T offers the Cooper Power Systems Smart Sensor solution, which provides utilities with a reliable means to locate and isolate problems on electricity delivery lines such as faults and failed capacitor assets, and communicate the event within the system. The solution reduces the costly and time consuming fault-chasing and inspection methods that stress system components to improve reliability and grid efficiency. “This award is the latest example of AT&T’s commitment to smart grid technology in the M2M (machine to machine) space, helping businesses and organizations to use wireless technology to streamline business processes and provide real-time monitoring of energy assets,” said Michael Antieri, President, Advanced Enterprise Mobility Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions. AT&T offers a range of strategic mobility products and services to the utility industry, including wireless solutions for field service workers, outage detection and remote monitoring. AT&T’s dedicated team of industry specialists understands the business process from end to end and translates technical solutions into meaningful business value for customers.
