Consulting

Cooper Power Systems has been in the business of optimizing energy delivery for electrical utilities for more than 20 years. During that time we have acquired extensive knowledge regarding what works well in various situations.

Due to our diverse client base throughout North America, each with unique situations concerning terrain, size of the service territory, number of customers and members, as well as other varying factors, we have had the opportunity to put our Energy Services Software, Yukon®, to the test and it has performed extremely well.

Whether you’re looking at an AMI/AMR, Demand Response, Capacitor Control, or Substation Monitoring solution, you can be sure we’ve used and installed a system similar to yours. We can provide you with advice and tips on what to look for in a desired system and you can have confidence in knowing that we will be truthful and honest when we discuss the capabilities of our system.

We also have sample specifications prepared to help utilities who desire to begin the request for proposal process. These sample specifications include possible questions and qualifications for utility solutions that optimize energy delivery, increase efficiency, improve processes, and help your utility run at its peak efficiency and effectiveness.

Installation

Cooper Power Systems has installed our systems at more than 400 electrical utilities throughout North America. Our Technical Services experts are in the field weekly to assist utilities and installation contractors in how and where our equipment should be installed.

From placing repeaters on the line to sensors in the substation, our experts can help you maximize your purchase through proper placement and installation.

Rather than perform any of the installations ourselves, we are there to oversee and support your selected installers. We will also be there to describe the “why” and “how” of the process. This will give you the information you need to answer any questions your board or other employees might have as to why equipment was placed in particular areas.

Additionally, because of our familiarity with the equipment, our engineers can answer your questions about the proper way to assemble and prepare your system to ensure you are getting everything you need from your investment.

We have also developed solid relationships through the years with meter installers and contractors who know the Cooper Power Systems equipment and are familiar with its installation procedures.

Implementation

Cooper Power Systems offers all its utility partners the best experience available to plan and execute your solution roll-out. Our proven process includes creating teams both on the Cooper Power Systems side and the utility side and clearly determining roles and responsibilities for each group.

One of the biggest advantages in rolling out an AMI/AMR, Demand Response, Capacitor Bank Control, or Substation Monitoring solution is clear and concise communication. With our extensive experience and four-phased approach, we make sure everyone is fully informed during each step in the process.

Our four phase process includes:

  • Discovery
  • Design
  • Development
  • Delivery

We recognize each project is unique and presents its own set of challenges, but we also know that from project to project there are standard tasks that need to be done. We work with you to create both the standard and customized tasks.

The Discovery phase begins with the kick-off meeting. We typically begin with a kick-off meeting to introduce all parties. During this meeting, we exchange contact information and establish relationships and establish clear lines of communication. Following the kick-off we coordinate a current and future state assessment.

Cooper Power Systems has experienced great success in following this four-phased approach and working closely with utilities through each phase. In the next phases, we will help you with system programming and quality assurance, operational planning, implementation planning, an organization readiness and training plan, and a seamless transition once your system is ready to go live.

In addition to successful implementation practices, Cooper Power Systems also provides in-depth system training for users and administrators of Yukon.
