VARAdvisor™ Capacitor Bank Maintenance
The VARAdvisor reports blown fuses on switched and fixed/static distribution capacitor banks. This solution eliminates the need for frequent inspections of capacitor banks and provides better asset utilization and system efficiency and more efficient workforce deployment. By utilizing a sensor on the capacitor bank neutral, banks can easily be monitored to improve OM cost. Sensors with integrated communications The sensors are designed to monitor the neutral current flowing through the grounded neutral of a capacitor bank. Trip levels are configurable and abrupt increases above the trip level can signify a fuse operation. The sensor will report current above the configurable trip level as well as report back when current drops below the configured trip level signifying the repair has been made. The sensor uses integrated cellular (GPRS) communications. Future communications options include licensed RF, unlicensed RF, CDMA cellular, and WiMAX. Yukon GridServer software The Yukon GridServer is designed to be located in the secure zone of the utility network. The Yukon GridServer software receives Sensor Advisories from the field sensors. These advisories or open fuse notices can be displayed and archived for utility personal along with sending event notices via email, local alarming, or other means of notification. Additionally the Yukon GridSever data bridge module can be provided for routing data to enterprise systems such as EMS, SCADA, DMS and GIS using industry standard protocols such as DNP 3.0 and ICCP.
EAS is actively working with customers to develop new sensors with a full range of hardware, software and communications options.
