  • About OPC Servers

OPC is an open standard that permits a consistent method of accessing field data from plant floor devices. Interoperability is assured through the creation and maintenance of open standards specifications. Data Access is one of these standards. IEC 60870-5-101 and 104 OPC Servers

The IEC 60870-5-101 and IEC 60870-5-104 protocols are recommended by IEEE for communication among master stations, RTUs (Remote Terminal Units) and IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices).

The IEC 60870-5-101 protocol applies to serial communication links, while IEC 60870-5-104 applies to TCP/IP communication links. Both OPC servers are available in master or slave configurations. A master OPC server polls slave devices while a slave OPC server responds to requests sent by a master device.

IEC 60870-5-101 / 104 OPC Server Features

  • Available in master or slave configurations
  • Support multiple TCP/IP connections (IEC 60870-5-104)
  • Support multiple serial connections at bit rates up to 115200 bps (IEC 60870-5-101)
  • Automatic device time synchronization with server clock
  • Fully configurable polling cycle
  • Queuing function prevents loss of events caused by the OPC Data
  • Access refresh rate limitations
  • Time-tagged commands (IEC 60870-5-104)
  • Import and export configuration text files
  • Support OPC Alarm & Events 1.10

DNP3 OPC Server

The DNP3 (DNP 3.0) protocol is recommended by IEEE for communication among master stations, RTUs (Remote Terminal Units) and IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices). DNP3 (Distributed Network Protocol) is widely used by the electrical utility industry in North America.

Cooper Power Systems' DNP3 OPC Server applies to both serial and TCP/IP communication links. The DNP3 OPC Server is available in a master configuration.

SMP OPC Server:
Reduce the number of installed OPC Servers

With Cooper Power Systems' SMP OPC Server and the SMP Gateway, you only need to install one OPC server on the server side. Since the SMP Gateway can handle the vast majority of proprietary and standard protocols in the industrial field, it takes charge of all the protocol conversion and data concentration. The OPC Server simply acts as a data relay to other OPC-compatible applications. Learn more >>>
