Cooper Power Systems provides a family of Hardware designed to meet your needs and provides the following features and benefits.
Designed for each utilities SMART GRID application
The CBC7000 family includes failsafe modes in the event communication is lost and is the most advanced and flexible communicating capacitor bank controller available in the market. A key strength to the design is our SelectComm™ pluggable communication modules, which offers the maximum in system protection at the lowest cost.
Traditional control strategies
The CBC7000 family of is designed to operate as a local-site control using traditional control strategies such Power Factor, VAR, Voltage, Current, as well as Time and Temperature. These inputs can be combined to meet the specific need of each utility or deployment location. In addition, these inputs may be used as failsafe strategies when communications are present.
Our approach
Utilities face the difficult decision of deploying field controls to meet today’s needs and the needs of the evolving Smart Grids. The CBC7000 was specifically designed with that in mind and can be deployed as a stand-alone site controller today and upgraded in the future to a communicating controller; thus maximizing the longevity of and use of a valuable asset. Our single platform design provides the same user interface to the entire family minimizing the field training.

CBC7000/CBC7100 Family with Integrated Communications—Our trustworthy Low Cost One- and Two-Way Controller providing a proven modular, universal design capable of being deployed with different communications configurations to meet different application needs with fail safe back-up modes of operation.
900 MHz FLEX One-Way Paging
Fast, secure and economical communication that supports group addressing as well as individual. Supported by traditional public paging providers.
VHF Digital One-Way Paging
Economical communication that is supported by traditional VHF networks. This low cost one-way communication offers control commands as well as commands to re-configure the settings on the CBC 7000 remotely.
Cellular GPRS/GSM
Fast, secure two-way digital cellular communication with industry accepted standards and a strong infrastructure and wide coverage. This two-way module allows scanning of status, states as well as commands and re-configuration of the CBC 7000 remotely.
Cellular 1xRTT/CDMA
Fast, secure two-way digital cellular communication with industry accepted standards and a strong infrastructure and wide coverage. This two-way module allows scanning of status, states as well as commands and re-configuration of the CBC7000 remotely.
DNP 3.0 Serial
Cooper Power Systems is offering a option which will operate the on-board serial port as a DNP 3.0 compliant communications front end so that the CBC can be directly integrated into a utility SCADA/EMS. The DNP 3.0 Serial SelectComm module can be used with licensed and unlicensed radios.
Cooper Power Systems PLC
Cooper Power Systems’ two-way power line carrier Automatic Meter Reader and Distribution Automation fixed network.
Ethernet/IP Stack
Cooper Power Systems has deployed the CBC 7000’s on BPL, WiMax, and MDS INET networks throughout the United States. Our IP stack controller offers two-way communications using industry standard IP addresses and protocols.
CBC5010/CBC3010 Family with Integrated Communications—These Capacitor Bank Controllers are flexible, inexpensive one-way terminals for remote control of distribution line capacitors or for other distribution automation applications requiring similar control capabilities. We will work closely with the utility to determine which option best meets your specific needs.
CBC5010—Our low cost, proven Controller utilizing 900 MHz FLEX Paging communications providing a flexible, inexpensive one-way capacitor bank controller for remote control of distribution line capacitors
CBC3010—Our efficient, cost effective controller utilizing Cooper Power System’s Power Line Carrier (PLC) providing a flexible, inexpensive one-way terminal for remote control of distribution line capacitors
The major difference between these two models is the communications network used by each.
CBC5010 uses 900 MHz FLEX paging
CBC3010 uses Power Line Carrier
The CBC provides additional capability to close or trip banks based on locally set voltage conditions, however, this may be overridden from the Master Station.
System control is either via Cooper Power Systems’ Yukon Master Station software or third-party software. The Master Station can be tied to a SCADA/EMS system to implement closed loop VAR or voltage control. This feature can also be provided by the Yukon software.
This family of CBC models provides:
Economical one-way Capacitor Bank Controller
